If you’ve looked through home depot light bulbs, you must be aware of how tricky it is to pick one. There are so many to choose from, and all have different pros and cons. You need to consider all of these before you decide which one is the best match for your lighting needs. And we’ll help you with that.
Types of Light Bulbs
We’ll be talking about the various technologies available for you to pick from, and tell you their pros and cons so that you can decide which suits you the best.
- Incandescent Bulbs- These bulbs are filled with argon gas, and use electricity to heat the filament and generate light. These are the oldest and the most affordable type of light bulbs available in the market. They have a very aesthetic look and are widely available. But in comparison to other technologies available, they have a much shorter life span and are less bright and efficient. They generate a lot of heat and therefore need to be used carefully.
- Halogen Bulbs- Halogen bulbs are similar to common incandescent bulbs; except they are filled with halogen gas. This gas results in a much longer life span for the bulb. These are also more power-efficient, and much brighter. They provide the same classy look as common incandescent bulbs but cut back on the cons to a great degree.
- Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL)- These spiral bulbs are filled with mercury gas. They use electricity to excite the gas, which goes on to produce light. These are a lot more energy efficient when compared to their incandescent siblings, and do not generate nearly as much heat. But a lot of the times, they seem out of place when it comes to aesthetic. Moreover, they are also more expensive than other incandescent options.
- Light Emitting Diode (LED)- LEDs are the top dog when it comes to lighting technologies. Unlike Incandescent Bulbs, these semiconductor devices convert electrical energy directly to light energy. This is why their efficiency and brightness are substantially higher. Moreover, due to the lack of heat generated, they have an extremely long lifespan. But, since they come with the biggest price tags, it isn’t viable for everyone to buy these.
We hope that this will help you in making an informed choice, and in picking the lighting solution best suited for you.
